About this event

Kids' Bike Rodeo is turning 5 in 2022! We are excited to get back out there and get on our bikes. The SportLab, the Town of Huntsville, Ontario Provincial Police, Kiwanis Club of Huntsville Muskoka, Fowler Construction and Muskoka Bicycle Pro Shop have joined forces to present this fun and educational bike clinic focused on teaching kids the basics of cycling safely, all in a non-threatening environment.

The Kids' Bike Rodeo is appropriate for school aged kids from 4-9.

There are FOUR half hour time slots available for registration:

  • 4:30 - 5:00 pm
  • 5:00 - 5:30 pm
  • 5:30 - 6:00 pm
  • 6:00 - 6:30 pm

Participants will go through a variety of stations geared to helping them improve their cycling knowledge and skills. These include:

  • Bike and Helmet Safety Checks
  • Road Safety (signs & hand signals)
  • Mock Intersection
  • Shoulder Checks
  • Riding Agility
  • Slow Speed Bike Control
  • Avoiding Hazards

Afterwards, each cyclist will receive a healthy snack, a completed checklist, a certificate and some free gear!

The SportLab is excited to help our young residents participate safely in regular physical activity such as cycling. We also hope to motivate kids to think about cycling as a means of transportation or as a possible sport of choice as they develop into young adults.

Subaru IRONKIDS Fun Run
Jul 09, 2022

Race in Canada's Cottage Country

Using sport and competition as a starting point, the Subaru IRONKIDS program is designed to inspire children to embrace active, positive and healthy lifestyles. Young athletes aged 3-15 can participate in a variety of events, including triathlon, aquathlon, duathlon and running races, many of them held in the days leading up to the Subaru IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 races. The events encourage participation, safety, fitness and fun.

There are three Subaru IRONKIDS events on the calendar. The Subaru IRONKIDS Canada Fun Run, which takes place in Whistler, BC, consists of two different events, a 1-km and a 1.5-km run. The Subaru Mont Tremblant IRONKIDS Fun Run includes a 1-km and a 5-km run. And the Subaru Muskoka IRONKIDS Fun Run features a 500-m run for toddlers and a 1-km run for all other junior athletes.

70.3 Muskoka

A mid-summer race loved for its stunning beauty and naturally tough course.  This race takes place in a region adjacent to the majestic Great Lakes—a pristine, forest getaway in Canada's cottage country.

Ted Barris - Battle of the Atlantic
Oct 21, 2022 12:00 PM

“Lunch & Learn Series”

Friday, October 21/22 12 noon
Royal Canadian Legion 232 - Huntsville

We are proud to present author Ted Barris & launch this much anticipated book; Battle of the Atlantic: Gauntlet to Victory – by Ted Barris

In the 20th century’s greatest war, one battlefield held the key to victory or defeat – the North Atlantic. It took 2,074 days and nights to determine its outcome, but the Battle of the Atlantic proved the turning point of the Second World War.

For five and a half years, German surface warships and submarines attempted to destroy Allied transatlantic convoys, mostly escorted by Royal Canadian Navy destroyers and corvettes, as well as aircraft of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

In 1939, Canada’s navy went to war with exactly 13 warships and about 3,500 sailors. During the desperate Atlantic crossings, the RCN grew to 400 fighting ships and over 100,000 men and women in uniform. By V-E Day in 1945, it had become the 4th largest navy in the world. The Battle of the Atlantic proved to be Canada’s longest continuous military engagement.

“The story of Canada’s naval awakening in the bloody battle to get convoys to Britain, is a Canadian wartime saga for the ages, told masterfully by author Ted Barris”

Ted Barris has published 19 non-fiction books. His book
The Great Escape: A Canadian Story won the 2014 Libris Award as Best Non-Fiction Book in Canada.
His book
Dam Busters: Canadian Airmen and the Secret Raid Against Nazi Germany received the 2019 NORAD Trophy from the RCAF Assoc. His book Rush to Danger: Medics in the Line of Fire was listed for the 2020 Charles Taylor Prize for Non-Fiction in Canada. Battle of the Atlantic: Gauntlet to Victory is Ted’s 20th published non-fiction book.
